Lamb price dip might be short-lived

FINISHED lamb prices continued to slide at the beginning of this week despite sterling’s weakness and its theoretical benefit for exports.

The fact is, say export abattoirs, demand for UK lamb is down on the Continent, particularly France, and buyers there appear to be reluctant to move upwards on price.

This coincides with greater numbers coming forward off farms, in line with the normal seasonal marketing trend, as producers seek to generate cash for replacement breeding sheep.
